PG Book Club
"Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan

Amarillo Uptown had the privilege recently of joining a local book club for their monthly meeting. The PG Book Club was formed in 1992, and the members have been reading together ever since. They meet once a month to choose their next book and discuss the one they have just finished. Each member takes a turn hosting a meeting at their home and choosing the book the group will read next. To date, they have read 114 books together!

This month they met to discuss their latest, “Loving Frank: A Novel,” by Nancy Horan; a look into the internal life of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his lover, Mamah Borthwick. As a special treat, the group met to discuss the book at an historic house built by Wright himself right here in Amarillo. The book chronicles the love affair between Wright and Borthwick that lasted about 6 years. The two met when Wright began building a home for Bothwick and her husband, and their affair led to major scandal and caused them both major setbacks in their professional lives. This story is primarily about Mamah and her struggles as a turn-of-the-century woman at the verge of the women’s movement.
