SEASON PREMIERES

Grace

Each year, I carefully plot which shows will be mine. I have to admit that I'm not that adventurous, and don't really like trying new shows. My sister is an entertainment junkie, and is always on the cutting edge of TV. I, on the other hand, typically get into a TV show about 2 seasons after its premiere.

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Grace

Yesterday, I walked into the salon a hair color-virgin. An hour and a half later, I stepped into the sunlight a whole new woman. I come from a long line of natural brunettes who are not so natural anymore. My mom and sister both started coloring by their late 20s. Some might say gray hair runs in our family, but you won't ever see one.

IT'S GETTIN CHILLY

Grace

I absolutely adore the cool weather that has rolled in this week. Whenever it starts to get cool, the drive through lines at my favorite coffee shop gets so long. There's this cozy, nostalgic feel all over town and I can't help but think of my favorite movie: You've Got Mail.

I COULD BE BATWOMAN

Grace

I'm not typically a dreamer; I'm more of a talker. I'm always chatty in my sleep, while my husband is absolutely silent and busy dreaming odd things. At least 3 mornings a week, he wakes up to tell me all about some dream in which he was fighting crime and saving lives. I know, right? Hilarious.

THIS KITCHEN THING

Grace

I've learned that grilling out after work takes much less time and clean-up, freeing me to enjoy the rest of the evening. Since she taught me about the grill, I've grilled chicken, salmon, corn and fresh veggies. Last week, I had a few random ingredients in the fridge. Here's what I came up with; it was really wonderful and got rave reviews from my hubby.

HOUSEWARMING

Grace

While I was at home, my Gran gave me a housewarming gift she had been working on. As a child, she had memorized "Home" by Edgar Guest. It's a poem about what makes a house a home, written in a deeply Southern dialect.

THE EXERCISE MIND GAME

Cute running clothes really help motivate me. My friend says that she gains motivation from reading exercise magazines or watching athletic events on television. What’s your trick? How do you stay motivated?

JUMP!

Grace

All this to say - my husband is one of many men in his family who loves to experience things. They don't sit by and watch; they DO. Now I must tell you - by nature, I'm a little bit of a scaredy cat. It's true. But as they say, opposites attract!

TALL SKINNY VANILLA LATTE

Grace

During my first winter season, I invested in a winter coat from J Crew. I also obtained a serious caffeine addiction. And now, I can't stop. I had always scoffed at those caffeine addicts, wondering why perfectly sane people allowed themselves to be controlled by coffee beans. I don't scoff anymore.

HAPPY DADDY'S DAY!

Grace

Daddies and daughters are pretty much opposites – adults and children, men and girls, wise and childlike. Somewhere between softballs and stiletto heels, we met in the middle. I love you, Daddy.

DOES THIS MAKE ME LOOK FAT?

Grace

I will be wearing a swimsuit in front of my husband’s entire family, along with many wedding guests. With this event looming in my mind, I have been trying to watch my meal choices a little more than usual. Today at lunch I even ordered a salad, which I absolutely hate doing.

FIGURING OUT THIS KITCHEN THING

Grace

Sunday, I went to the grocery store armed with a renewed vigor for cooking, and a foot long grocery list. I left with an equally long receipt and a truckload of groceries. I thought I’d share one of the recipes I used.

CLINGING TO COMPOSURE

Grace

What is it about embarrassing moments that prompts us to share? I’ve decided there’s nothing like laughing at myself. After all, together-ness is overrated.
